Virtual Office Hours
The Canadian Association for School Health uses this page for hosting conversations about designated topics using private or public instant messages, having informal web meetings
or taking telephone calls during designated times or "office hours".

Here is our schedule of "office hours" events:

Public Instant Messageing (Cover it Live)

We have developed four methods for communicating with you during these office hours.

Three of these methods use free instant messaging services as a means to respond to your inquiries. (We prefer that you use IM because we can then respond to several people during our designated time in these virtual office hours.
  • There is an IM box for private messages (Meebo) that only we (CASH or designated resource person) will read. The reply back you will also be private.
  • There is an IM box for public messages (Cover it Live). When we reply to that query, it will be posted for everyone to see.
  • There is an IM box within our informal web meetings (Elluminate) where we will activate a link (see below) at the designated time and you will be able to drop into a web meeting where we will be discussing selected topics with resource people.
The fourth method is old-fashioned, with a new twist. If you have a low cost long distance package on your telephone service, simply call us at 250 483 6988. If LD charges are an issue, use our free dial in service described below.

1. Private Instant Message (Private & Anonymous)
If you type a question into the Meebo message box on the right hand side of the page (press enter after typing), a private message will be posted that only we (Canadian Association for School Health Staff or invited resource people) will see. Please post those messages only when we are on line and we will try to respond as quickly as we can to refer you to various sources of information. Note: You can remain anonymous when asking your question or type in your name before posting your message. We will be alerted when you have posted a message and will respond asap during the office hour times. (Note: We may already be responding to another inquiry, so please be patient.)

2. Public Instant Message (Public version that others
can see and reply to as well)
Type a message into the CoverItLive box on the left
hand side if you would like to ask a question or make a
comment during discussion. There will a delay and your first
message will not be made public (until we enable you to post
un-moderated messages).

Most of these public IM sessions using the CoverItLive platform
will start with a brief comment from the moderator.

To participate, type your message and then press "send".

3. Drop In Web Meetings
(These web meetings will usually include a brief presentation/conversation with resource people.)
All participants will be able to hear the presentation and see slides through their computers. Then participants will be able to participate through instant messages or by using a headset and/or a stand-alone microphone. (The microphones on most computers are not good enough quality to be used)

To access a drop-in web meeting, simply click on this Participants Link when it is active during designated office hours. The link will take you into the meeting after you download a bit of software from the Elluminate system and enter your name as requested during the entry procedure. Note: The link will only be active during the time of the drop in meeting. Any digital recordings of these drop in web meetings will be listed below. Please read these instructions on how to access the system)

4. By regular telephone during Office hours
Call us during office hours at 250 483 6988 and we will try to respond to your request. If long distance charges are a problem for you, we have a system whereby you can call our number free of charge from anywhere within Canada. Go to the long distance access page on our telephone service (Vonage) web site, use the drop-down menu to find the local telephone number that you can call in your area, dial that number, enter our number (250 483 6988) and you will reach us with no LD charges.
